NEWS: U.S. Chamber of Commerce Endorses Stephanie Murphy for Congress

Organization Praises Murphy’s Bipartisan Voting Record, Work on Economic Growth and Fiscal Responsibility

WINTER PARK, FLA. – The U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the world’s largest business organization representing companies of all sizes across every sector of the economy, today endorsed Stephanie Murphy for Congress. Murphy, who is leader of the pragmatic, fiscally responsible Blue Dog Democrats, secured the endorsement due to her bipartisan voting record and work promoting economic growth and fiscal responsibility.

“In challenging times, we are reminded of the importance of having leaders who understand the genius of the American system of government and free enterprise and who are willing to tackle the hard problems that confront our nation,” said Tom Donohue, chief executive officer of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, in the organization’s endorsement letter. “Your continued leadership in Congress will benefit the nation as we combat the coronavirus, work to restore economic growth, and expand opportunities for all Americans.”

As a member of the Ways & Means Trade Subcommittee, Murphy worked closely with the Trump Administration to help pass the historic U.S.-Mexico-Canada Trade Agreement to level the playing field, bring more jobs to Florida, and expand markets for Florida’s small businesses. Murphy also, again as a member of the Ways & Means Committee, wrote and helped pass the Employee Retention Tax Credit (ERTC) which is helping countless employers across the country keep their employees on payroll or rehire them. She is pushing for an expanded ERTC and additional small business assistance in the next round of COVID relief that Congress is currently considering.

“In helping our small businesses, I’ve voted to roll back burdensome regulations and red tape, increase access to capital, and provide emergency relief during the pandemic. I have and always will put people over politics, which is why President Trump appointed me to serve on his bipartisan task force to help re-energize our nation’s economy,” said Murphy. “As a former businesswoman who has counseled startups and small businesses, I’m proud to be a pro-worker, pro-small business leader who is laser-focused on creating more and better-paying jobs in Central Florida. I’ll keep working with our local chambers of commerce to help our small businesses get through this crisis, create jobs, and build back better than before.”

According to the U.S. Chamber, it endorses leaders in Congress who it determines to vigorously support policies that advance economic growth, help create jobs, and promote fiscal responsibility. Last year, the U.S. House of Represenatives passed the USMCA, renewed the charter of the Export-Import Bank, reauthorized Terrorism Risk Insurance, and restored critical resources for highway funding. While just a snapshot of important House activity in 2019, the organization said Murphy’s lifetime percentage on the Chamber’s “How They Voted” scorecard was the driving factor in securing the endorsement.

First elected in 2016, U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy represents Florida’s Seventh Congressional District, which includes portions of Orange County and all of Seminole County, in the U.S. House of Representatives. Previously, Stephanie was a businesswoman, college instructor, and national security specialist in the Office of the Secretary of Defense where she received numerous awards for her distinguished service, including the Secretary of Defense Medal for Exceptional Civilian Service. She is the first Vietnamese-American woman ever elected to Congress and the first woman to represent this congressional district. She lives in Winter Park with her husband, Sean, and her two young children.
