Military Family Highlights Murphy’s Commitment to Veterans in New Ad

Daughter of Veteran Shares How Murphy Helped Her Family Cut Through Red Tape, Get Benefits Her Father Earned

WINTER PARK, FLA. — U.S. Congresswoman Stephanie Murphy today launched her third television ad of the 2018 campaign. The 30-second television ad – “Sarah” – highlights Murphy’s commitment to military families with a testimony from Sarah Barton, whose family Murphy helped cut through the red tape at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to get benefits they were owed. Barton’s father, Staff Sergeant Gerald Birman, honorably served in the U.S. Air Force. After his passing, Sarah struggled to get her ailing mother the survivors’ benefits she was owed by the VA. After the family contacted Murphy for assistance, she successfully worked on their behalf to secure benefits that allowed Sarah to care for her mother.

Statement from Stephanie Murphy:

“When my family fled communist Vietnam, the U.S. Navy rescued us, allowing us to come to America to pursue the American Dream,” said Murphy. “I owe this country – especially our men and women in uniform – a debt of gratitude I can never fully repay, but I am working hard every day to try. Supporting our veterans and their families isn’t just professional for me, it’s personal.”

My father was proud to serve his country.
We were a proud military family.
We needed to care for my mother, and these benefits were tied up in red tape and bureaucracy.
My father earned these benefits for his family.
We were in dire straits.
Stephanie Murphy took on the bureaucracy and did what was right for me and my family.
She really cares for veterans and their families. This is her passion.

I’m Stephanie Murphy and I approve this message.
